Mumbai Bombings

As you may be aware, several terrorist bombings occurred in Mumbai, India earlier in the week. Consequently, Indian authorities have issued high security alerts for Mumbai, New Delhi, and Kolkata. Therefore, we are expecting transportation disruptions and general service delays in these areas. Our heart goes out to those affected by this horrible event and we wish our fellow Indian friends a prompt recovery.

June 16, 2011 - Postal Service halted in Canada

As of Tuesday, June 14, 2011, the Canada Post has suspended all operations in a lockout of the Canadian postal workers who were engaging in a series of rotating strike actions against the post office. This will, of course, put a halt to mail service throughout the country until an agreement between the parties is reached.

April 21, 2011 - Truck Drivers Go On Strike At Shanghai Ports

Please note that operations at major container ports in Shanghai (including Baoshan and Yangshan) have been disrupted due to a strike by thousands of the country’s truck drivers. Although state media did not report on the incident, we have received confirmation of the strike from Arpin Group’s Shanghai office.

April 19, 2011 - New Customs Regulations in Argentina

Effective immediately, Argentine Customs has extended its mandatory 100% customs inspections to include all export and import shipments. Prior to this date, only export shipments were affected. This procedural change was first implemented in July 2010 as a result of illegal drugs being confiscated from an international household goods shipment.

January 14, 2011 - AMSA Expands Membership to Include All U.S. Agents of Arpin Van Lines

All 140 agents in the Arpin Van Lines family across the U.S. will join the American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA) in 2011, the two organizations announced today.

Christiane Crown has joined Arpin Group as vice president of military DPS systems.

As vice president, Crown will be directly responsible for all military Defense Personal Property Program (DP3) business and will help Arpin Group grow through her expertise in Department of Defense systems.

DP3, a program implemented by the Department of Defense, is a computer system designed to facilitate and streamline the moving process for members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Moving companies must interface with the DP3 system if they provide household goods transportation for service members, military-employed civilians and their families.

November 10, 2010 - New Security Measures For U.S. Inbound Cargo

As a result of the events surrounding the U.S. inbound cargo over the past week, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security continues to strengthen security requirements for all U.S. aircraft operators and foreign carriers regarding cargo inbound to the U.S.

In addition to the full ban on all cargo originating from Yemen and Somalia, the majority of U.S. based passenger airlines have implemented a full ban on cargo which represents an elevated risk and is destined to or transitioning through the U.S.

November 08, 2010 - Caroline Curik Joins Arpin International Group in Germany

Caroline Curik has joined Arpin International Group as manager of customer relations at its growing customer service center in Germany.

As customer relations manager, Curik will oversee the acquisition of new clients for Arpin International Group in Germany.

August 16, 2010 - Arpin Group Unveils First Electric Car Charging Station

Arpin Renewable Energy and Cardi’s Furniture Superstores have teamed up to provide drivers of plug-in electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars with the first public car charging station in Rhode Island.  The charging unit, provided by Coulomb Technologies, is expected to be followed within a year by a new design called ARC (Auto Recharge Center), currently being developed by an Arpin Renewable Energy affiliated partner.

The electric car charging station will be unveiled during a media event on August 27, 10:00 a.m. at the Cardi’s Furniture Superstore, 1681 Quaker Lane (Rt. 2) West Warwick, R.I.

July 13, 2010 - New Russian Customs Regulations

New Russian Customs regulations are significantly affecting all expatriate shipments to Russia.

Previously, household good shipments of non-Russian citizens employed in Russia cleared Russian Customs as temporary imports without paying duty. Duty-free temporary imports of household goods were in accordance with the validity terms of the respective Russian visa and were required to be re-exported prior to the visa’s expiration.

Susan Garganese has been promoted to general manager, Arpin of Rhode Island, an agent of Arpin Van Lines.

May 03, 2010 - Arpin Group Acquires Affiliated Transportation Systems

Arpin Group today announced it acquired the stock of Affiliated Transportation Systems (ATSI) and eight related companies. ATSI is a household goods transportation service provider located in Lawton, Oklahoma, and primarily serves military personnel.

“This acquisition will provide significant opportunities for Arpin Van Lines’ agents to pack and haul shipments that are booked by ATSI,” said David Arpin, president and CEO of Arpin Group.

ATSI and its related companies own or manage 22 military authorities with over $32 million in billings in 2009.

All of ATSI’s operations will continue in place in Lawton, Oklahoma, and be operated independently of the Arpin companies. Ron McDonald, ATSI senior vice president, will continue to be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the acquired companies and report to Matt Dolan, Arpin Group’s senior vice president and chief operating officer.

April 12, 2010 - Major Congestion Expected at Asian Ports

Please note that ports throughout Asia are currently experiencing major congestion affecting export shipments. Due to the current economic climate, most major carriers have experienced considerable financial hardship, and as a result, have decreased their fleets and therefore, their capacity significantly. As a consequence, they have been unable to meet the current market demand, and while a global issue, this shortage is currently being felt most severely in China and throughout Asia.

Arpin Group to help Rhode Island residents and businesses recycle computers and shred documents to benefit the Audubon Society of Rhode Island

Special fundraising e-waste collection open to public for one day only - April 24

Arpin Group will host an e-waste recycling collection and document-shredding event on Saturday, April 24, with proceeds going to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island. The collection will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Audubon Environmental Education Center, 1401 Hope Street (Rte 114), Bristol, R.I.

A minimum donation of $.20 per pound is highly encouraged for most items, but certain items such as air conditioners will require an extra disposal fee. All donations collected from e-waste recycling benefit the Audubon Society of Rhode Island. 

March 31, 2010 - Historic Flooding In Rhode Island

Due to the severe flooding in the state of Rhode Island and surrounding areas, roads and highways are closed and the state has been declared a disaster area. Many of our staff and management at both Arpin Van Lines and Arpin International Group have experienced flooding in their homes and others are unable to get to the offices due to road and highway closures and flooding.

At this time, both Arpin Van Lines and Arpin International Group are open but working with reduced staff.

March 23, 2010 - Chinese Customs’ Regulations Update

We have been informed that beginning Friday March 19, 2010, Shanghai customs authorities will inspect ALL import and export air freight shipments for literature considered to be defamatory, critical, or subversive towards China and its government. Though not specified, we believe that any literature concerning the Dalai Lama, Xinjang riots, the Tiananmen Square incident, Tibetan emancipation, Taiwan independence, as well as general criticism(s) of China will be included in this sweeping regulation.

Arpin Group keeps nearly 24,000 lbs. of electronic waste ouf of local landfills and receives ABC6 and New Channel 5's Green Conscious Company of the Year Award.

The First Annual E-Waste Fest 2009, a folk festival and e-waste recycling event hosted by worldwide mover, Arpin Group, Inc. and electronic waste recycler, Cartridge World RI, collected 23,860 lbs. of computers, printers, monitors and other electronic waste for safe disposal, preventing these items from landing in local landfills.
