April 21, 2011 - Truck Drivers Go On Strike At Shanghai Ports
Please note that operations at major container ports in Shanghai (including Baoshan and Yangshan) have been disrupted due to a strike by thousands of the country’s truck drivers. Although state media did not report on the incident, we have received confirmation of the strike from Arpin Group’s Shanghai office.

Christiane Crown has joined Arpin Group as vice president of military DPS systems.
As vice president, Crown will be directly responsible for all military Defense Personal Property Program (DP3) business and will help Arpin Group grow through her expertise in Department of Defense systems.
DP3, a program implemented by the Department of Defense, is a computer system designed to facilitate and streamline the moving process for members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Moving companies must interface with the DP3 system if they provide household goods transportation for service members, military-employed civilians and their families.

As a result of the events surrounding the U.S. inbound cargo over the past week, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security continues to strengthen security requirements for all U.S. aircraft operators and foreign carriers regarding cargo inbound to the U.S.
In addition to the full ban on all cargo originating from Yemen and Somalia, the majority of U.S. based passenger airlines have implemented a full ban on cargo which represents an elevated risk and is destined to or transitioning through the U.S.

Arpin Group today announced it acquired the stock of Affiliated Transportation Systems (ATSI) and eight related companies. ATSI is a household goods transportation service provider located in Lawton, Oklahoma, and primarily serves military personnel.
“This acquisition will provide significant opportunities for Arpin Van Lines’ agents to pack and haul shipments that are booked by ATSI,” said David Arpin, president and CEO of Arpin Group.
ATSI and its related companies own or manage 22 military authorities with over $32 million in billings in 2009.
All of ATSI’s operations will continue in place in Lawton, Oklahoma, and be operated independently of the Arpin companies. Ron McDonald, ATSI senior vice president, will continue to be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the acquired companies and report to Matt Dolan, Arpin Group’s senior vice president and chief operating officer.

Please note that ports throughout Asia are currently experiencing major congestion affecting export shipments. Due to the current economic climate, most major carriers have experienced considerable financial hardship, and as a result, have decreased their fleets and therefore, their capacity significantly. As a consequence, they have been unable to meet the current market demand, and while a global issue, this shortage is currently being felt most severely in China and throughout Asia.

The collection will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Audubon Environmental Education Center, 1401 Hope Street (Rte 114), Bristol, R.I.

A minimum donation of $.20 per pound is highly encouraged for most items, but certain items such as air conditioners will require an extra disposal fee. All donations collected from e-waste recycling benefit the Audubon Society of Rhode Island.

March 23, 2010 - Chinese Customs’ Regulations Update
We have been informed that beginning Friday March 19, 2010, Shanghai customs authorities will inspect ALL import and export air freight shipments for literature considered to be defamatory, critical, or subversive towards China and its government. Though not specified, we believe that any literature concerning the Dalai Lama, Xinjang riots, the Tiananmen Square incident, Tibetan emancipation, Taiwan independence, as well as general criticism(s) of China will be included in this sweeping regulation.
