Arpin Group 2010 E-Waste Collection

April 05, 2010

Arpin Group to help Rhode Island residents and businesses recycle computers and shred documents to benefit the Audubon Society of Rhode Island. Arpin Group will host this special fundraising  e-waste recycling collection and document-shredding event on Saturday, April 24, with proceeds going to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island. The collection will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Audubon Environmental Education Center, 1401 Hope Street (Rte 114), Bristol, R.I.. A minimum donation of $.20 per pound is highly encouraged for most items, but certain items such as air conditioners will require an extra disposal fee. All donations collected from e-waste recycling benefit the Audubon Society of Rhode Island.

In addition, to help prevent identity theft, Affordable Shredding will bring a mobile shredder to the Environmental Education Center. Cost for shredding is $.35 cents per pound, $.10 cents of which goes directly to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island. “Most people have electronic waste and old documents stored in their basements and do not really know what to do with the items,” said Brent Mancuso, general manager of Office Recycling Solutions, whose company is co-sponsoring the event. “Our e-waste collection day and shredding services offer a convenient means for people to dispose of them properly while donating money to a worthy cause.”

Most electronic products used in the workplace and homes contain hazardous substances such as lead and mercury. When these products reach the end of their useful lives or become obsolete, some are considered hazardous waste. Hazardous waste should not be discarded in the regular trash, but rather, recycled by an e-waste collection facility.

Items eligible for recycling at $.20 per pound are CPU’s/computers, servers, keyboards, spare computer parts, monitors, laptops, network equipment, mice, laser printers, routers, radios, scanners, fax machines, uninterruptible power supplies, cables, wires, cell phones, and telephones. Some items will require an additional disposal fee of $15.00 i.e., window unit air conditioners, dehumidifiers, etc. Alkaline batteries or “white goods” such as home appliances will not be accepted.

Arpin is working with Cartridge World RI, Office Recycling Solutions, and the Audubon Society of Rhode Island to sponsor this event and ensure that the recycled items will be disposed of properly.
