Expect Port Delays in VenezuelaMarch 06, 2013
Venezuela’s Vice President Nicolas Maduro late Tuesday announced that President Hugo Chavez had passed away following a long illness. As such, Maduro called for a nationwide seven day mourning period.
President Chavez will be buried on March 8, 2013; additional tributes and activities are also planned during this time. Although most of the country’s businesses will be fully operational, certain port and airport activities that require the presence of the country’s National Guard will be limited, such as mandatory scanning of import and export shipments. As a consequence, additional port storage and demurrage charges for containers may be assessed.
Your Arpin service team is aware of affected shipments and will do everything possible to minimize delays and manage the expectations of the relocating families to the best of their ability.
