Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries Lift Embargo Against Qatar

January 25, 2021

Arpin Group is pleased to announce that with the recent lifting of the embargo against Qatar from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Arpin can now directly manage all moves between UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Egypt to and from Qatar.

You may recall that due to a political dispute, GCC countries (except Kuwait and Oman) announced three years ago that they were implementing an embargo against Qatar. This move resulted in a logistical nightmare in facilitating household goods and personal effects shipments between the countries. The only legal and compliant way to ship household goods was to route the effects back to the assignees home country, unload and reload into another container, produce a new Bill of Lading and Packing List (to avoid showing Qatar on any documents) and rebook the container for export from the home country. As you can imagine, this added considerably to the transit time and to the total cost of the shipment.

Arpin’s regional authority on mobility in the Middle East Region, Lauren Inglis, shares the significance of lifting the embargo and its immediate impact on the movement of household goods and personal effects between GCC countries in her Global Mobility Announcement.
