Myanmar Customs Changes

March 03, 2014

New changes implemented by Myanmar Customs may affect the import of used household goods into the country when sent by sea. The new regulations will provide for shipments to be cleared through customs and classified under ‘temporary import’ status for one (1) year. Following one year, the shipment will become classified as ‘permanent import’, requiring the payment of duties and taxes at an estimated 10% of the declared value of the household goods. Current import limitations relative to quantities, documentation, and customs formalities remain unchanged.
