Service Interruption Alert: Some Japan/Asia shipments impacted by TsunamiMarch 14, 2011
The massive earthquake, which occurred at 2:46 pm (local time) on March 11, 2011 approximately 179 km east of Sendai, Japan, has disrupted some vessel schedules and operations due to delays in berthing, temporary suspension of operations and some port omissions.
Some ports are experiencing delays up to three days which may impact household goods shipments. In places where damage is more severe, plans are being developed to work around the disruption to cargo flow.
Cargo operations have resumed at the port in Yokohama following a weekend shutdown. There is no damage to Narita, Kansai international and Fukuoka airports, but there may be some restrictions and/or delays on some commodities to facilitate the arrival of supplies for relief effort.
